Summerlicious 2012: Boiler House

11 Aug

Hi Everyone,

I’m here with another Summerlicious post.  I know it is a bit late, but better late than never!  I went to Summerlicious 2012 back in mid July.  For those of you who don’t know, Summerlicious is an annual event held in Toronto, ON.  Many of Toronto’s top restaurants offer a 3 course meal (appetizer, main course, and dessert) for a fixed price.  You get the chance to try some of the more expensive restaurants for a reduced price.  Lunch prices range from $15-$25 per person, and Dinner’s range from $24-$45.
I ended up going to the Boiler House.  It is a well known restaurant in Toronto located in the Distillery District.  The Distillery District is a transformed area that used to be the former Goodherham and Worts distillery.  It’s a beautiful location, with cobblestone paths and old factory looking architecture.  The Boiler House has contemporary Canadian cuisine in a fine dining atmosphere.

The menu was as follows:

$35 Dinner plus taxes and gratuity

soup of the day
chef’s daily creation
or
baby spinach and arugula salad
crumbled chevre, raspberry orange dressing
(vegetarian)
or
morrocan black mussels
tomato chermoula, preserved lemon and cilantro

char broiled aaa alberta striploin
sweet pea and tarragon risotto, port wine jus
or
pan seared atlantic salmon
warm salad of roast cauliflower, chickpea and quinoa, feta cheese, old sherry vinegar, lemon and parsley
or
tagliarini primavera
cherry tomatoes, ancient peppers and green peas, basil and pinenut pesto
(vegetarian)

blood orange crème caramel
or
coffee toffee frozen parfait
cocoa nibs
or
chef selection of sorbet and sherbets

We all ordered the mussels as the appetizer, since it was the most bang for your buck.  They were amazing!  I was trying to eat slowly and savour them, but they were soo good that I couldn’t help but devour them quickly.

The main entrees are below.  I had the fish.  I loved it!  It was extremely delicious.  I preferred it over the steak.

Here are two of the desserts.  None of us ordered the sorbets.  I ordered the frozen parfaits.  They were definitely the better choice over the creme caramel.  They were soooo good!  I wish there was more than 4.  Their presentation was a little strange though.  The chocolate sauce in that line looks kinda like…… LOL

I hope you guys enjoyed this post as much as I enjoyed eating all the delicious food!
Until next time <3
