Miss Fortune Cosplay Part 2

5 May

Hi GGG Readers,

Other Miss Fortune Cosplay posts:   Part 1

I am back with part two of my Miss Fortune Cosplay.  I have finished my top and I have started on my hat.  I still have a lot to do, and I feel like I am running out of time.  My guns are coming along as well. My next post should focus again on my gun progress.

Miss Fortune’s Top

In order to make Miss Fortune’s top (if you can call it a top LOL) I bought a bra from La Senza.  It is a white lace strapless bra.  I wanted to make sure the bra was lace in order to give it more detail.  I then bought faux leather fabric from fabric land.  This fabric was actually found in the section that is used to make drapery, curtains, and other things.  It wasn’t in the regular clothing material section.  I then took the following steps to make the top:

1)   I first cut out triangles that fit perfect onto the bra cups

2)   I then cut a shape that would fit perfectly under and around the cups.

3)    I hand stitched on the triangles first, and then the bottom piece.

4)   I then cut out two rectangular pieces that are the same height as my bottom piece.  I hand stitched this onto the sides of the bottom piece.  I made sure that these pieces were not attached to the actual back of the bra.  This is so that you can still stretch and hook the bra on in the back.  These rectangular pieces will then lay on top.  The back is attached with black velcro that was also bought at fabric land.

5)   Next, the detail was added at the top of the bra cups.  This was made by purchasing a white lace trim and black ribbon.  I cut slots into the lace trim, and the black ribbon was weaved through to give that striped effect.  This was then hand stitched onto the top of the bra.

6)   I then created my own bow with the same faux black leather material.  This was hand stitched together and then onto the top.  I then added a gold/black button to hide the stitching and give it a more finished look.

7)   Lastly, the arm straps were sewn on.  The material I used isn’t stretchy, so I had to make sure these were long enough so I could lift my arms.   The problem is now when my arms are down, they hang pretty low.  Oh wells!

I might still add some detail onto the top.  Not sure yet.  It is not in the splash page, but I think it will add more to the look.  I’m thinking of adding a gold pattern along the side bands of the top.  I guess I’ll decide later.

Hope you enjoyed this tutorial and stay tuned for more updates on my cosplay progress.  I should have a tutorial on my hat shortly as well.

Miss Fortune Cosplay Part 1

25 Apr

Hi GGG Readers!

Other Miss Fortune Cosplay Posts:  Part 2

Anime North 2013 is fast approaching, and as predicted I am procrastinating on my cosplay. LOL.  I’ll be going as Miss Fortune from League of Legends this year.  So far I have my wig, my contacts, started on my guns and top/shirt.  Still have a lot to do and not enough time!  In this post I want to share with you how I am making my guns.

Wig and Contacts

Lets start off with a preview of my wig and contact lenses.  I just got my contacts from PinkyParadise.com.  They are the Vassen Bambi Queen Blue circle lenses.

Guns

I started off by making my guns similar to my Riven cosplay props.  I started with layers of foam board, with the intent of covering with instant paper mache.  Please see my link for more details.  After finishing the base of the first gun, I decided to stop this method and make my guns out of wood.  I decided on this for a couple reasons.  First I wanted my weapon to be a bit more sturdy than last year’s, and I think I am able to make it look better and provide a smoother surface to paint on with wood.  I will be sharing both methods for you, as I know a lot of you cosplayers out there may not have the equipment or time to do wood work.

Foam Method:

1)   First I bought foam board from the dollar store.  Each board was $1 each I believe.

2)   I traced out the basic shape of my gun and cut the foam board out with an exacto knife.

3)   I bought a pylon from the dollar store and cut off the base to give me a cone.  This cone I used as the opening of the gun.  I traced the pylon onto the foam boards.  I then cut out this shape so that the pylon would fit nicely onto the end of the gun.

4)   I cut out many layers and glued them together to my desired thickness.  Some layers I cut off the trigger part, so that this part would be thinner than the others.  The barrel layers (outer most layers) did not include the handle.

5)   This is where I stopped, but to continue you would shape the gun by carving it with an exacto knife.  This would give it more of a rounder shape.

6)   Cover the gun in instant paper mache (Purchased from Michael’s craft store for approximately $30.00.  Remember to use your coupons!)

7)   Let the instant paper mache dry.  Do not make the layers too thick as they might not dry completely.  Add more layers if necessary.

8)   Sand the paper mache down and paint.

Please see our other tutorials on how to finish your weapons.

Wood Method:

1)   Trace gun shape onto wood board.

2)   Cut out shape.  I used a small table like saw to cut out my guns.

3)   Wood can be a bit more heavy than foam, so to make my guns a little lighter I hollowed out the inside layers a bit.  Be very careful to not go all the way through the wood.  I used a hammer and a chisel to do this.

4)    Use wood glue to glue together the layers.  I used two layers of wood for the handle and base of gun.  I added an additional two layers (rectangular shaped) to the barrel, and a few additional pieces to the end of the gun so that it can be sanded flush with the end funnel.

5)    I bought a plastic pot from the dollar store to use as the end of my guns.  This turned out to be a perfect size.

6)   I used a sanding tool attached to an air compressor to sand down my gun and make the barrel more rounded.

Still to do:

- Attach plastic pot to the end- Finish sanding
- Adding Trigger area
- Using wood filler to fill in gaps
- Painting
- Adding detailed designs

Anime North 2013 – Cosplay Preview

17 Mar

Hi GGG Readers!

It’s that time of year again… Anime North 2013 is coming to Toronto!!

I am a little late in starting my cosplay this year, compared to last.  Myself, Coco Rocha, Ninjabunnies, and one of my close guy friends are cosplaying League of Legends champions again.  I have bought most of my supplies, which I will provide a list in a future post with final pricing.  So far I have only started on my weapons.  I will post a tutorial once I am finished the first stages.

Here is a preview of my cosplay.
Can you guess which League Champ I’ll be cosplaying?

Here’s a hint:
“How do you like my guns… Shock, and Awe!”

Happy Halloween!!

29 Oct

Hi GGG Readers,

As you all know, Halloween is this Wednesday.  Some of my friends and I went out this past weekend to celebrate.  We ended up going out on both Friday and Saturday, and I had two different costumes (one for each day).

I was a vampire French maid on Friday and Hermione Granger from Harry Potter on Saturday.

My wig was purchased from the same EBay seller as ninja bunnie’s.  It came from Korea and shipping was really fast (about 2 weeks).

Here are some pictures from the weekend:

DIY False Lower Eyelashes

21 Oct

Hi GGG Readers,

I want to share with you an easy way to make your own false bottom lashes using regular top false lashes.

I originally wanted to purchase false lower lashes online, but I wouldn’t receive them in time for Halloween.  So I decided to try cutting up an old pair of false top lashes that I’ve never worn.

First you want to take a pair of false lashes that will look good as bottom lashes as well.  I used this pair from “Quo”.

You then cut the lashes into small sections.  You want to vary the length.  You should make sections longer towards the outside corner of your eye, and shorter/smaller towards the center.

Place these along your lower lash line using your eyelash glue.  Place the longer sections towards the outside corner of your eye.  When placing these, you want to have them the opposite direction of your top lashes (curving downwards).  I like to stop approximately mid way along my bottom lash line.

Voila!  You are finished!  Below is a picture showing the difference between one eye with top and bottom lashes vs. my other eye with just mascara.  The false lashes definitely makes a huge difference!

You can also try this with old lashes that are out of shape, and you can no longer wear.

My Halloween Costume

14 Oct

Hi everyone,

After trying on many costumes, and returning costumes, I’ve finally decided on what to be for Halloween this year: A Vampire French Maid!  Haha.

Originally I was going to be Red Riding Hood, and I bought the costume and I still have it, but I think I might save it for another time.  I also bought a pirate costume that was pretty nice, but pricey.  The smallest size they had at the store was Small, and it was wayy to big so I had to return it.

I also bought a french maid costume from Ebay.  I was skeptical however, since I wouldn’t be able to try it on and I didn’t know when it would arrive.  This was why I ended up buying back up costumes (Red Riding Hood).  The french maid costume finally arrived a couple days ago (after about 3 weeks).  I tried it on and loved it! It is said to fit most sizes between XS – Medium.  On me it fits pretty well, except it is a big loose.  I think I’ll just take it in a bit on the sides and it should be perfect.  In addition, the costume is really short.  I’m about 5′ 4″ and it just barely covers my butt.  I’ll also be wearing a white petticoat under neath and lacey white boy shorts.  This should help cover my butt a little.  The costume comes with accessories as well:  head piece, lace arm bands, lace neck piece, fish net thigh high stockings, and black g-sting.  I think the g-string is if you plan to use this as lingerie.  This costume was also extremely inexpensive.  In total with tax and shipping it cost ~$14.00 CAD.

I also felt like being a french maid for Halloween is so common.  I bet there will be tons of others while I’m out.  I wanted to be a bit different and stand out, so I decided to get vampire fangs as well.  I bought mine from the store “Spirit Halloween” and I bought the Scarecrow Subtle Small Fangs.  As I have a small mouth and teeth, these ones will fit nicely and look more natural.  I’ll try to post a tutorial on how to fit these once I get around to trying it.
I also bought some fake gel blood to add to my vampire look.

I also ordered red contacts from PinkyParadise.

I originally wanted the Vassen Dolly Plus Red lenses, since they have a lot of good reviews, but they were sold out in my prescription.  I ended up going with the Super Pinky Wine Red lenses since they were more natural.  I feel like I would be able to get more uses out of them, than ones that are too vibrant of a red.

Hope you guys enjoyed.  Please feel free to let me know what you think, or if there is anything else I should add to my costume.  I will be sure to take pics once everything arrives.

SANS Magazine Photo Shoot

5 Oct

Hi GGG readers,

Myself and some of the other GGG girls recently did a photo shoot for SANS Magazine.  It was ah-mazing~!
Please check out their site as well.  They have tons of great photos and articles.

We met Michael Turnbull (Creative Director of SANS Magazine) at this year’s Anime North.  We got to talking, and he invited us to participate in a photo shoot for his online magazine.  The experience was fantastic and a ton of fun!  The shoot consisted of 3 different concepts:  riding a bike, eating ice cream (messily, I must say lol), and brushing our teeth.  For most of us, this was a first time experience, and I have to admit I was a little nervous (and I’m sure the other girls were as well).  However, everyone was super welcoming and it turned out to be a blast!

Please visit the above link to view the full article and gallery of photos.

I’d like to share a few of my favourite shots:

Froyo Mama

27 Sep wpid-20120923_163527.jpg

Hi GGG readers,

I recently went to a frozen yogurt place called “Froyo Mama”.  It is one of those places where you self serve yourself and your final product is weighed.  The price you pay is based on the weight.  It is a lot of fun.  But the cup is large and deceiving.  It can get pricey very easily if you go overboard.

You first put as many flavours of frozen yogurt as you want, then add toppings and sauces.

I tried cheesecake and pomegranate flavours of Froyo.  I topped it with cookie dough, cheesecake bits, chocolate chips, sliced almonds, passion fruit sauce, and a cookie.  Yummy!!!  The cheesecake froyo here didn’t have much flavour however.  I wouldn’t recommend it.

Squid Heads

19 Sep

Hi Everyone,
I recently went to The Ex several weeks ago in Toronto.  I won some amazing prizes.  I won several different Domos to add to my Domo collection.  In addition, I won a large Chococat, and a hello kitty.  The funniest of our wins was these different coloured squid hats!  We thought they were hilarious and we won one for each of us to wear.  We wore them the rest of the night.  I got a couple compliments, some stares, and strangers asking me where I had won them.

Check out these funny hats:
