Momofuku Shoto

14 Feb

Happy Valentines everyone!

My boyfriend and I decided to go to Momofuku Shoto last week to celebrate Valentines to avoid the rush on the 14th. They serve a tasting menu that’s priced at $150 per person and beverage pairing is also available for $50 or $80. Their menu is based on market availability so will change from time to time.

Our menu for the night.

We started off with 4 amuses.

IMG_2855

Some sort of fresh Alberta yeast bread..? lol

IMG_2693

Uni with walnut.

IMG_2854

Rice friend in pork fat.

IMG_2698

Forgot what this was called >_<. Some sort of mushroom dish…

IMG_2692

One of the chefs and the view from our seat.

The pictures below are all in order of the menu, so refer to that for what each dish is XD.

This last dish didn’t seem to be part of the menu, but I don’t remember it as one of the amuses.. not quite sure what it is haha >_<

Overall I enjoyed the dinner, but not quite sure if I would go again… I’d rather just use that money for a really nice sushi/sashimi meal haha. But I really wanted to try because the restaurant has had sooo many good reviews.

Dota 2 Beta Key Giveaway

6 Feb

Hello fellow gamers!

Recently I’ve been playing a lot of Dota 2. It’s still in the beta phase so it’s not publicly available yet.

dota_2

I was a Dota player before I started playing LoL. I always preferred Dota over LoL (sorry LoL players =P) but the old Dota was too hard to join games to play with friends, so we all made the switch to LoL. Now that Dota 2 beta has been released, I’ve gotten back to playing Dota XD.

But games like Dota 2 are way more enjoyable to play with friends! The more the merrier! But beta keys are still somewhat hard to come by. So, I’m giving away 3 beta invites. How do you win? Simple, just comment below with your Steam ID and tell me your favourite hero! First come first serve!

Good luck and happy gaming!

Kingyo Izakaya

30 Jan

Hello food lovers!

I went to Kingyo Izakaya today for dinner. It’s a restaurant similar to Guu where you order small dishes to share and to go with drinks.

IMG_2640

IMG_2641

The menu items are small and are meant to be shared.

IMG_2642

Cow tongue stone grill.

IMG_2646

You cook the tongue on the stone which is pre-heated *0*.

IMG_2643

Spicy chicken hotpot with cabbage and bean sprouts. Sort of like a Japanese take on a Korean dish. Not a lot of chicken as you can see.. lol.

IMG_2644

My drink, melon white wine sangria! Super yummy XD.

IMG_2645

Uni and scallop stone bowl and karaage. the uni and scallop stone bowl was probably the best thing I tried there.

IMG_2647

Toro and avocado sushi. Very thin slices of Toro…

IMG_2648

Scallop carpaccio. Scallops were small, pretty sure they cut each scallop in to 2 pieces…

IMG_2650

Green tea macha creme brulee. This was really good, I wish I ordered a second one XD.

IMG_2649

Frozen grapes, they give you these when you get the bill.

The price point of this place is similar to Guu Izakaya. We had 4 people, we each ordered a drink and shared about 8 dishes and 2 desserts. The total came to $50/person. I wasn’t exactly full after the meal but I wasn’t hungry haha.

Personally I feel the portions are way too small and probably would not go to have dinner, but it’s a nice place to go to have some drinks and some food to go with the drinks with friends.

Dolly Wink Liquid Eyeliner Review

23 Jan

Hello everyone! Today I want to review my favourite liquid eyeliner so far: Dolly Wink’s liquid eyeliner.

8140072374_8ee025e2fb

I’ve mentioned Dolly Wink before many times for my love of their false lashes. They not only make nice false lashes but also really nice liquid eyeliners! (I didn’t find their pencil liners to be anything special though, which is sad because the packaging is so cute XD).

Currently they have 2 lines out in the market.

IMG_2563The polka dot packaging is their first version of their liquid eyeliner, which I’ve used for about a year and a half now, and the daisy packaging is their second version of the liquid eyeliner. In terms of staying power, water resistance, and and length of wear, I’d say the 2 are about the same, I didn’t notice much of a difference. However, I found the second version much smoother to draw on the eyelid. The first version was also smooth but would dry out after a few months making it hard to draw a nice smooth line, where as the second version seemed much smoother in comparison.

IMG_2566Both liners are felt-tipped, very easy to use even for beginners, creates nice smooth lines of varying thickness, and easy to draw cat-eyes with. The colours are also very pigmented, the black is a true black, great for a more intense look and the brown is great for a natural look.

IMG_2565What I love about these eyeliners is that they dry fairly fast and are water resistant and rub resistant. However, they come off very easily with warm water making removing it a very simple process. Oh and of course the cute packaging XD.

Many Asian cosmetic stores that carry Japanese drugstore products will mostly likely carry Dolly Wink products in North America. However, do expect to pay a premium for it. I bought mine in Hong Kong for around $15. Sasa also sells these for around $17.

Overall, I give Dolly Wink eyeliners a 5/5. There’s nothing that I dislike about them, great product in nice packaging ^_^.

Iron Chef Japanese Steak House

9 Jan

Last week, I went to Iron Chef Japanese Steak House in Mississauga for a get together with some friends. The restaurant is a good for groups since they have large tables for both the teppanyaki side of the restaurant or if you just want to side in the regular dining room. We all had teppanyaki so we were seated around a teppanyaki grill.

We were served with salad and soup as we waited for our chef to cook our main courses.

IMG_2519

Our Chef starting on our meals.

IMG_2522

First up is vegetables. We were each given a ginger sauce and a mustard sauce, but I found the veggies to be pretty nicely flavoured already when he served it.

IMG_2525

Coco’s main course: scallops. They were very well cooked, I was impressed. Not a bit over cooked and nicely seared on the outside.

IMG_2526

Cooking the sirloin steak.

IMG_2527

Again, very well seasoned and tasted great!

IMG_2528

Lastly is the friend rice, he made it into a heart shape!

There were a lot of tricks that the chef did which I couldn’t really capture with pictures. Overall, a very entertaining dinner with better than expected food. I normally don’t expect food from teppanyaki to be too great because it’s mostly for the show. Iron Chef however served us delicious food as well as provide entertainment XD. The dinners cost us around $30 – $35 each after tax and tip.

Overall I would give it a 4/5 for food and entertainment, however, the cost is slightly steep for the food.

Taipei Pictures

Happy New Year everyone!

Taipei was the last destination of my little Asia trip. We went to a hot springs in Beitou and spent around 3 days in Taipei city site seeing and eating. Lots and lots of eating.

IMG_2324View from our room in Beitou. We stayed at Radium Kagaya Hotel in a traditional Japanese style suite with tatami mats.

SAM_2661We were all given yukata to wear XD.

IMG_2314Our stay included a very extensive Japanese meal. This was our dinner menu, it’s in Chinese but as you can see, there were tons of courses…

IMG_2304

IMG_2305

IMG_2306Pictures of a few of our courses. Everything was super tasty, but there was so much food I had to take a break in between eating >_<

IMG_2313Taking a rest because I was so stuffed lol.

IMG_2317After dinner we went back to the hot springs, but I decided to only soak my feet.

IMG_2331Then we headed off to Taipei after our mid-trip relaxation at the hot springs! Nightmarkets is a MUST at Taipei.

IMG_2332Tons of different kinds of food, snacks, games, and random things to buy.

IMG_2359This was super yummy, it’s deep friend milk!

IMG_2364More food XD.

IMG_2368Can’t leave Asia without getting my nails done…

IMG_2385I decided to get this gel nail set.

IMG_2401Leaving Taipei, we had to stop over in Tokyo, and we were lucky enough to get the Hello Kitty flight!

IMG_2404The plane was so cute, everything was Hello Kitty. I really wanted to take that pillow, but I already had too much stuff to carry =(. My friend took the puke bag as a souvenir though =__=.

That’s it for my Asia trip! I think my favourite part was the hot springs hotel. It was so relaxing and food was really good. We even had a butler to serve our room =O. I definitely wanna go back there again XD.
