Miss Fortune Cosplay Part 2

5 May

Hi GGG Readers,

Other Miss Fortune Cosplay posts:   Part 1

I am back with part two of my Miss Fortune Cosplay.  I have finished my top and I have started on my hat.  I still have a lot to do, and I feel like I am running out of time.  My guns are coming along as well. My next post should focus again on my gun progress.

Miss Fortune’s Top

In order to make Miss Fortune’s top (if you can call it a top LOL) I bought a bra from La Senza.  It is a white lace strapless bra.  I wanted to make sure the bra was lace in order to give it more detail.  I then bought faux leather fabric from fabric land.  This fabric was actually found in the section that is used to make drapery, curtains, and other things.  It wasn’t in the regular clothing material section.  I then took the following steps to make the top:

1)   I first cut out triangles that fit perfect onto the bra cups

2)   I then cut a shape that would fit perfectly under and around the cups.

3)    I hand stitched on the triangles first, and then the bottom piece.

4)   I then cut out two rectangular pieces that are the same height as my bottom piece.  I hand stitched this onto the sides of the bottom piece.  I made sure that these pieces were not attached to the actual back of the bra.  This is so that you can still stretch and hook the bra on in the back.  These rectangular pieces will then lay on top.  The back is attached with black velcro that was also bought at fabric land.

5)   Next, the detail was added at the top of the bra cups.  This was made by purchasing a white lace trim and black ribbon.  I cut slots into the lace trim, and the black ribbon was weaved through to give that striped effect.  This was then hand stitched onto the top of the bra.

6)   I then created my own bow with the same faux black leather material.  This was hand stitched together and then onto the top.  I then added a gold/black button to hide the stitching and give it a more finished look.

7)   Lastly, the arm straps were sewn on.  The material I used isn’t stretchy, so I had to make sure these were long enough so I could lift my arms.   The problem is now when my arms are down, they hang pretty low.  Oh wells!

I might still add some detail onto the top.  Not sure yet.  It is not in the splash page, but I think it will add more to the look.  I’m thinking of adding a gold pattern along the side bands of the top.  I guess I’ll decide later.

Hope you enjoyed this tutorial and stay tuned for more updates on my cosplay progress.  I should have a tutorial on my hat shortly as well.

Miss Fortune Cosplay Part 1

25 Apr

Hi GGG Readers!

Other Miss Fortune Cosplay Posts:  Part 2

Anime North 2013 is fast approaching, and as predicted I am procrastinating on my cosplay. LOL.  I’ll be going as Miss Fortune from League of Legends this year.  So far I have my wig, my contacts, started on my guns and top/shirt.  Still have a lot to do and not enough time!  In this post I want to share with you how I am making my guns.

Wig and Contacts

Lets start off with a preview of my wig and contact lenses.  I just got my contacts from PinkyParadise.com.  They are the Vassen Bambi Queen Blue circle lenses.

Guns

I started off by making my guns similar to my Riven cosplay props.  I started with layers of foam board, with the intent of covering with instant paper mache.  Please see my link for more details.  After finishing the base of the first gun, I decided to stop this method and make my guns out of wood.  I decided on this for a couple reasons.  First I wanted my weapon to be a bit more sturdy than last year’s, and I think I am able to make it look better and provide a smoother surface to paint on with wood.  I will be sharing both methods for you, as I know a lot of you cosplayers out there may not have the equipment or time to do wood work.

Foam Method:

1)   First I bought foam board from the dollar store.  Each board was $1 each I believe.

2)   I traced out the basic shape of my gun and cut the foam board out with an exacto knife.

3)   I bought a pylon from the dollar store and cut off the base to give me a cone.  This cone I used as the opening of the gun.  I traced the pylon onto the foam boards.  I then cut out this shape so that the pylon would fit nicely onto the end of the gun.

4)   I cut out many layers and glued them together to my desired thickness.  Some layers I cut off the trigger part, so that this part would be thinner than the others.  The barrel layers (outer most layers) did not include the handle.

5)   This is where I stopped, but to continue you would shape the gun by carving it with an exacto knife.  This would give it more of a rounder shape.

6)   Cover the gun in instant paper mache (Purchased from Michael’s craft store for approximately $30.00.  Remember to use your coupons!)

7)   Let the instant paper mache dry.  Do not make the layers too thick as they might not dry completely.  Add more layers if necessary.

8)   Sand the paper mache down and paint.

Please see our other tutorials on how to finish your weapons.

Wood Method:

1)   Trace gun shape onto wood board.

2)   Cut out shape.  I used a small table like saw to cut out my guns.

3)   Wood can be a bit more heavy than foam, so to make my guns a little lighter I hollowed out the inside layers a bit.  Be very careful to not go all the way through the wood.  I used a hammer and a chisel to do this.

4)    Use wood glue to glue together the layers.  I used two layers of wood for the handle and base of gun.  I added an additional two layers (rectangular shaped) to the barrel, and a few additional pieces to the end of the gun so that it can be sanded flush with the end funnel.

5)    I bought a plastic pot from the dollar store to use as the end of my guns.  This turned out to be a perfect size.

6)   I used a sanding tool attached to an air compressor to sand down my gun and make the barrel more rounded.

Still to do:

- Attach plastic pot to the end- Finish sanding
- Adding Trigger area
- Using wood filler to fill in gaps
- Painting
- Adding detailed designs

Blade & Soul Cosplay: Blade Master

5 Jul

I’m kind of late to the party with posting my cosplay from Anime North 2012, so I hope you guys don’t mind! It’s one of my favourite cosplays I’ve done so far and I love the game (Okay I know it’s not even released yet…but I love the artist! Props to Hyung Tae-Kim)

This year I cosplayed as a Blade Master from the upcoming Korean mmo, Blade & Soul!

Here is the picture of the original concept art:

And here is my costume below!

The two pieces of the costume that took the longest were the hip capes and the armour pieces (well, actually the whole thing took me awhile because I’m not really good/efficient with sewing clothes together either!).

Sorry I don’t really have any pictures of the whole process, but I have a couple for the capes!

I drew the stencil on bristol board and just cut out the pieces with an exacto knife – it’s a lot easier with a sharp blade! The hard part was planning which areas were to be cut out so they don’t mix up with each other. After I finished cutting it, I put it on top of the fabric and spray painted it on! One thing to keep in mind is to make sure your fabric isn’t the type to bleed, because for mine, the edges weren’t as crisp as I wanted them to be and sort of blurred a bit.

As for my armor pieces, I cut out the general base shape and used GREAT STUFF Spray Foam to spray on the general shape and sculpted away. I only knew about the spray foam from Coco because of her progress pictures, it looked really useful for armor pieces and she was able to sculpt out any shape she wanted to!

After that, it was a couple layers of paper mache so I have a surface to paint on, and then mad painting with acrylic paint.

Another picture of my friend who was a Bloodmoon Akali and I.

Like” us if you like us :) Leave a comment, a feedback or questions if you want to ask me about how I made something in my cosplay – hope you liked it!

Shyvana and League at Anime North

28 May

Hello Everyone!

As you probably are aware, we have been pretty busy with Anime North and seeing some awesome cosplays! I will be honest that this is very awkward, and I feel so nerdy, but here is a video of me trying to reinact Shyvana in emotes:

In other news, we had a fun night on Saturday, here’s a photo showcasing our new business cards!

I was happy with my cosplay though there was a lot of things that could be improved. I will talk about it in another post ! For now enjoy these:

I was very surprised by all the League of Legend cosplays I saw. I honestly didn’t imagine such a great group! There were so many awesome champions, but with my costume my photos were pretty limited. I believe BossEmily will have photos of the whole group =). Mine aren’t very good so wait to see hers!

This Brand was so good! I’m so glad I ran into him =).

There is definitely more to come! Hope you enjoyed my cosplay!

Nocturne Cosplay

14 May

Hello Everyone!

Yes! It is true, we will be having a League of Legends Nocturne cosplay along with Shyvana, Riven, Annie, Katarina, and Akali! I convinced my friend to cosplay Nocturne instead of Fiddlesticks. In my opinion Nocturne is more feasible than Fiddlesticks, even though both are physically impossible to have a perfect cosplay.  I thought Nocturne would be more unique, so hopefully it turns out. I only agreed to help him in building it if I could post it on GGG, so here it is!

Click here for Nocturne Final Cosplay result!

Here is the splash page:

Here is the main structure of the knives and shoulders. Obviously things are not perfect because the human body isn’t exactly like Nocturnes. At first I thought the upper body would be fine, but then I realized Nocturne’s head is a lot lower than a humans. He’s kind of a hunchback, so we had to make adjustments:

Here are the cuffs. The “T” shape you see is a support system so that it doesn’t turn on the wrists. We will most likely cover it with the fabric made claw. The hand will be inside the fake hand which will hold the knives up. The three knife layers are separated by two small stacks of foam board.

Here is the structure being spray foamed. We will cut the shape, paper mache and then Fast Mache it.

That is all we have! Believe it or not, we will try to finish this for Anime North (2 weeks)! We will probably make the body out of fabric, maybe chiffon of the bottom to make it flow. It will be hard to pull off, but we can only try. It might not be as the same quality as the others but we’ll see!

Shyvana Cosplay Update:

Sorry I wasn’t able to update my Shyvana Cosplay, I had to apply another layer of Fast Mache to all my pieces. I was also helping with the Nocturne cosplay. I bought the paints and did a test run, It looks okay. I’m trying to improve the look of the armor, hopefully it will be better than okay.

Stay Tuned =).

Riven Cosplay Part 3

26 Apr

For previous progress: Part 2 | Part 1

Hello everyone~!

I finally have enough progress to show you an update on my Riven cosplay.  I’ve been super busy with school and exams, so it was hard for me to work on my cosplay consistently.

Here are 2 videos of my progress summarized with my voice description.

This post I’ll be updating you guys on my sword progress.  So far I have cut out my sword (wood and foam boards), carved it, wired it (no LEDs yet), and started the paper mache process.  To cut out the shape of the sword, I used my printed out exported model of her sword and traced it onto a thin sheet of plywood.  I did the same with two foam boards taped together (one board was not long enough).  I then used a hot glue gun to glue the layers together.  The wood layer is sandwiched between multiple layers of foam board.

For some of the foam boards, I cut out a rectangle to accommodate the battery I will be using to power my LEDs.

After this was completed, the fun part began~!!  I took an exacto knife to carve the shape of the sword and the runes into either side.  I used a pencil to sketch out the runes first, and also details of the sword.  I had to also remove one layer of foam board for the middle part of the sword, which is slightly lower.  This turned out to be a bit difficult due to the dried hot glue gun holding the layers together.  I should have planned this part a bit better.

After everything was carved and shaped, I then cut out channels for the wires to run through.  I then used the hot glue gun to glue the wires into place.

Next step was to start the paper mache process.  I ran out of the previous Fast Mache I was using for my armor pieces, and decided to try a different brand of instant paper mache.  I bought the 5lb bag of the brand called:  Celluclay.

I hope you guys enjoyed this update.  Will be posting more updates in the upcoming weeks :)

Riven Cosplay Part 2

9 Apr

Hey everyone!

I have my wig that I will be wearing for this cosplay.  I bought it off Ebay a couple months ago.  When I first tried it on I hated it.  But after some styling it started to look alot better and more like Riven.  Let me know what you think.  I’m also unsure whether I should wear brown or green contacts.  Riven has golden brown eyes, but I am leaning towards green.

image

Also my electronics are in for my sword and glove!  I will be using green LEDs to light up my sword and glove.  Riven has glowing runes and I thought I would try to incorporate that.

image

image

To make the sword we exported the 3D model and made it to scale to my height.  Its HUGE! I hope it’s not too heavy.

Shyvana Cosplay Part 2

7 Apr

Hello all!

Here are the arm pieces for my shyvana cosplay. I was not able to finish the right arm piece completely. It took me longer than I expected, so you’ll be seeing it partly finished. I will update my post when it is completely done, but for now only the left arm is complete. The right arm still needs some more mache and  sanding. I thought the head piece would be harder than the arm pieces but I guess I was wrong -_-.

Hope you enjoy!

Using paper mache to cover the holes, and then using fast mache for finish:

Left arm sanded:

“Come get a glimpse into the belly of the beast!”

Let me know if you anything looks weird, or if I should change anything! I noticed I may have made the pieces too big? or the top pieces don’t look high enough? I probably won’t change it though, as I’ve already covered it and almost finished it. I do know that there is a diamond shape missing on the nose of the head. It will be added!

Next I will make the top armor piece with shoulder armor!

Riven Cosplay

5 Apr wpid-420515.jpeg

Hi Everyone!

Anime North is coming up at the end of May!! I’m super excited.  Pre-orders are already almost sold out!!  A bunch of us are cosplaying as a group this year as League of Legends Champions.  This is my second time cosplaying, and my first time actually spending time to make a good cosplay.  I’ve decided to cosplay as Riven, the Exile.  I made this choice purely because of the fact that I think she looks cool…. Haha.  I’m more of a ranged AD carry type of player in game.

Here’s her splash page:

This is a sketch I drew out of what I need to make:

I’ve decided to start on the armor pieces first.  I made them both out of cardboard first.  I then applied a base layer of newspaper paper mache.  I then applied instant paper mache.

Next steps include sanding, and then painting.  Check back for more progress of my cosplay <3

Also, if any of you are attending Anime North this year, be sure to come say hi to us!
