Miss Fortune Cosplay Part 2

5 May

Hi GGG Readers,

Other Miss Fortune Cosplay posts:   Part 1

I am back with part two of my Miss Fortune Cosplay.  I have finished my top and I have started on my hat.  I still have a lot to do, and I feel like I am running out of time.  My guns are coming along as well. My next post should focus again on my gun progress.

Miss Fortune’s Top

In order to make Miss Fortune’s top (if you can call it a top LOL) I bought a bra from La Senza.  It is a white lace strapless bra.  I wanted to make sure the bra was lace in order to give it more detail.  I then bought faux leather fabric from fabric land.  This fabric was actually found in the section that is used to make drapery, curtains, and other things.  It wasn’t in the regular clothing material section.  I then took the following steps to make the top:

1)   I first cut out triangles that fit perfect onto the bra cups

2)   I then cut a shape that would fit perfectly under and around the cups.

3)    I hand stitched on the triangles first, and then the bottom piece.

4)   I then cut out two rectangular pieces that are the same height as my bottom piece.  I hand stitched this onto the sides of the bottom piece.  I made sure that these pieces were not attached to the actual back of the bra.  This is so that you can still stretch and hook the bra on in the back.  These rectangular pieces will then lay on top.  The back is attached with black velcro that was also bought at fabric land.

5)   Next, the detail was added at the top of the bra cups.  This was made by purchasing a white lace trim and black ribbon.  I cut slots into the lace trim, and the black ribbon was weaved through to give that striped effect.  This was then hand stitched onto the top of the bra.

6)   I then created my own bow with the same faux black leather material.  This was hand stitched together and then onto the top.  I then added a gold/black button to hide the stitching and give it a more finished look.

7)   Lastly, the arm straps were sewn on.  The material I used isn’t stretchy, so I had to make sure these were long enough so I could lift my arms.   The problem is now when my arms are down, they hang pretty low.  Oh wells!

I might still add some detail onto the top.  Not sure yet.  It is not in the splash page, but I think it will add more to the look.  I’m thinking of adding a gold pattern along the side bands of the top.  I guess I’ll decide later.

Hope you enjoyed this tutorial and stay tuned for more updates on my cosplay progress.  I should have a tutorial on my hat shortly as well.

Miss Fortune Cosplay Part 1

25 Apr

Hi GGG Readers!

Other Miss Fortune Cosplay Posts:  Part 2

Anime North 2013 is fast approaching, and as predicted I am procrastinating on my cosplay. LOL.  I’ll be going as Miss Fortune from League of Legends this year.  So far I have my wig, my contacts, started on my guns and top/shirt.  Still have a lot to do and not enough time!  In this post I want to share with you how I am making my guns.

Wig and Contacts

Lets start off with a preview of my wig and contact lenses.  I just got my contacts from PinkyParadise.com.  They are the Vassen Bambi Queen Blue circle lenses.

Guns

I started off by making my guns similar to my Riven cosplay props.  I started with layers of foam board, with the intent of covering with instant paper mache.  Please see my link for more details.  After finishing the base of the first gun, I decided to stop this method and make my guns out of wood.  I decided on this for a couple reasons.  First I wanted my weapon to be a bit more sturdy than last year’s, and I think I am able to make it look better and provide a smoother surface to paint on with wood.  I will be sharing both methods for you, as I know a lot of you cosplayers out there may not have the equipment or time to do wood work.

Foam Method:

1)   First I bought foam board from the dollar store.  Each board was $1 each I believe.

2)   I traced out the basic shape of my gun and cut the foam board out with an exacto knife.

3)   I bought a pylon from the dollar store and cut off the base to give me a cone.  This cone I used as the opening of the gun.  I traced the pylon onto the foam boards.  I then cut out this shape so that the pylon would fit nicely onto the end of the gun.

4)   I cut out many layers and glued them together to my desired thickness.  Some layers I cut off the trigger part, so that this part would be thinner than the others.  The barrel layers (outer most layers) did not include the handle.

5)   This is where I stopped, but to continue you would shape the gun by carving it with an exacto knife.  This would give it more of a rounder shape.

6)   Cover the gun in instant paper mache (Purchased from Michael’s craft store for approximately $30.00.  Remember to use your coupons!)

7)   Let the instant paper mache dry.  Do not make the layers too thick as they might not dry completely.  Add more layers if necessary.

8)   Sand the paper mache down and paint.

Please see our other tutorials on how to finish your weapons.

Wood Method:

1)   Trace gun shape onto wood board.

2)   Cut out shape.  I used a small table like saw to cut out my guns.

3)   Wood can be a bit more heavy than foam, so to make my guns a little lighter I hollowed out the inside layers a bit.  Be very careful to not go all the way through the wood.  I used a hammer and a chisel to do this.

4)    Use wood glue to glue together the layers.  I used two layers of wood for the handle and base of gun.  I added an additional two layers (rectangular shaped) to the barrel, and a few additional pieces to the end of the gun so that it can be sanded flush with the end funnel.

5)    I bought a plastic pot from the dollar store to use as the end of my guns.  This turned out to be a perfect size.

6)   I used a sanding tool attached to an air compressor to sand down my gun and make the barrel more rounded.

Still to do:

- Attach plastic pot to the end- Finish sanding
- Adding Trigger area
- Using wood filler to fill in gaps
- Painting
- Adding detailed designs

Halloween 2012: Boss-Emily’s Costumes

Hey guys! For Halloween, I usually try to put together my own costumes to eliminate having duplicate costumes with someone else. Sometimes it helps save money too because you can reuse parts of your costume again or for regular use. Here are my costumes for this year’s Halloween:

Heel-less Shoes for Cheap

9 Oct

Hello readers!

I recently bought heel-less shoes from eBay. I seller I bought from is shoefever_outlet.  Theses are the specific shoes I ordered, I got the Suede Black ones. As most of you know Ninja Bunnies and I are going to be Espeon and Umbreon for halloween. Since I will be a black animal I think these shoes are perfect for the occasion! The shoes kind of resemble animal back paws no?

It was a great experience ordering the shoes from this seller. They were really quick I got my shoes within 5 days and It was sent to the nearest post office because I wasn’t home when it arrived.  For the price I honestly cannot complain at all! I knew paying $57 for it (including tax and shipping) could mean the quality is really bad. I was pleasantly surprised that it looked more expensive then I paid! There was a tiny bit of glue showing at the sides, but overall I’m very happy with these shoes.

As for walking in them, It is so much easier than you think. People were in awe when they saw me walking in them, but they are equivalent to platform heels with a really high heel. My feet did get sore and my toes hurt near the end as well, but I get this with regular shoes. I wore them for 6 hours, probably 40% of the time I was standing.

If you have a love for these types of shoes I urge you to buy them and try! I’m so happy I kicked myself into buying them. I’ve already wanted something like them, but most of them were too expensive and I was worried it would be too hard to walk in. Since I was able to get them for $57 I decided to give it a try! Its not a lot of money for a pair of shoes like these!

Until next time!

Samsung MV800 Digital Camera

11 Sep

Hi GGG readers!

I just recently bought a new digital camera.  I lost the battery to my old camera, and it was pretty old anyways.  I think I bought it probably 8-10 years ago, so I think I was due for a new one.

I purchased the Samsung MV800 16.1 Megapixel MultiView Compact Digital Camera.  I had love at first sight.  I have to be perfectly honest with you,  I saw the cam-whoring capability of this camera and was sold right away.  I didn’t really bother to compare it to any of the other cameras on the market.  I did look up reviews online, and I only saw good reviews.  I knew I had to have it.

The camera features a 3.0″ LCD touch screen flip display.  You can easily flip the screen up and you can see yourself while snapping pics.  Perfect for us girls, who love taking pictures.  No more pictures where half your face is cut off (unless that’s what you’re going for).

I absolutely LOVEEE this camera.  I really love all the different effects and filters you can play around with.  I want to show you some of the filters it offers.

Soft Focus

Half Tone Dot

Sketch

Fish Eye

Ink Painting

I think my favourite filter was definitely “Old Film” .  We had the most fun with it.  It reminded me of those old creepy pictures from a horror movie.  We tried to make our own horror photos.  I don’t know if we actually look scary however LOL.

Thanks to Sai Perez for the hair styles!

Thanks to Boss-Emily for modeling with me <3

Until next time!

My Birthday Outfit 2012!

20 May

Hey guys! My birthday recently passed and for my birthday this year, I decided to spend the night out with friends.

The outfit I wore that night was a military green romper from BCBG. It was actually quite simple with no designs and a solid colour throughout. The back of the romper has an opening that gives a peek of your back. It is also very comfortable to wear. I didn’t want to have to worry about being uncomfortable on my birthday! Although simple…sometimes I actually like getting my outfits plain, so that I could spice it up by accessorizing it after. :)

Along with the romper, I decided to wear this black belt from Costa Blanca. The front of the belt had some sort of design at the front and the back is a button up.

For my accessories and shoes, I decided to go with a gold theme. Therefore, I wore these gold, sparkly T-strap heels from Aldo. I originally got these shoes for prom, but I wear it all the time now. These shoes are quite comfortable to wear and comes in handy if you have to stand a lot throughout an event. I love these shoes because I can wear it with almost every outfit and it also helps to add flavour to simple outfits. Stay tuned for my next post to check out the jewelry I used for my birthday!

Black Costa Blanca Belt: $15

Gold, T-strap Aldo heels: $70 – $80

False Eyelashes from KKCenterHK

14 Apr

For Halloween 2011, one of my costumes was suppose to be a dark bird/Can’t be Tamed (Miley Cyrus)/Runaway (Kanye West) inspired costume. Halloween is the best time to rock those fake lashes…especially the extravagant ones. :) My friends and I decided to order lashes online together from KKCenterHK.com because shipping is actually quite pricey when ordering alone. I like the fact that this site has a large selection of fake lashes: natural, glamorous, feathers…you name it!

The ones I ordered were:

- Hand made Extra White Plumes Feather [M135-B]

- Hand made Extra Black Plumes Feather [M156]

- (Don’t exactly remember, but it should be under the Glamour or Luxuriant lashes category)

I am wearing Sterling Silver contacts that I got from an optical store.

My friend as the devil and myself as a bird.

I wanted feather lashes to emphasize the fact that I was a bird, but I only wanted feathers at the ends because I didn’t think full feather lashes would be flattering on me. However, the black feather lashes seemed a little dull (except for the ends). I decided to use two of the lashes together to create a fuller effect. I used the Black Plumes Feather and the non-feather glamour lashes because it’s a bit bird-like as well.

Bird, devil, pirate

In the end, I was pretty happy with how they looked after experimenting with stacking lashes. The only con was that the feathers weren’t totally symmetrical, probably because it was hand made. In pictures, it doesn’t look too noticeable though. :)

P.S. I gave the White plumes feather lashes to Cute sauce. If you’d like to see them on, you can ask her. ;)

DV by Dolce Vita wedges: Pura in Black Suede

5 Apr

These are currently my favourite heels/wedges to wear out. I love the fact that I can wear them casually, but also for fancier dinners or nights out. I noticed that wedges are a lot comfier to wear than normal heels/stilettos as well.  Also,  if you’re a bit on the short side (like me) and you don’t want to make it obvious that you’re wearing heels…this is a good, hidden height booster ;) because the heel blends in with the whole shoe.

I think these shoes were originally around $130, but I bought them on sale at The Bay for around $90 ish, back during the Christmas break.

I usually wear these ankle boots with: leggings, skinny jeans, skirts, dresses… anything that DOESN’T hide them =)
