Anime North 2013 – Cosplay Preview

17 Mar

Hi GGG Readers!

It’s that time of year again… Anime North 2013 is coming to Toronto!!

I am a little late in starting my cosplay this year, compared to last.  Myself, Coco Rocha, Ninjabunnies, and one of my close guy friends are cosplaying League of Legends champions again.  I have bought most of my supplies, which I will provide a list in a future post with final pricing.  So far I have only started on my weapons.  I will post a tutorial once I am finished the first stages.

Here is a preview of my cosplay.
Can you guess which League Champ I’ll be cosplaying?

Here’s a hint:

Neko Mimi Hair Tutorial

21 Jul

Neko mimi hair (or cat ear hair) has been a popular trend in Japan this summer among gyaru. It’s often the hairstyle for models in magazines.

From Vivi magazine

From Popteen magazine

It’s a super easy hair style that can be worn by anyone, whether you have short or long, straight or curly hair =). It’s also easily customizable to suit your own style, you can make the ears large (like Lena Fuji in the first picture above from Vivi) or small.

First, grab a vertical section of hair above your ears, the size or the “cat ears” will be determined by how much hair you grab. Then slightly tease the back of the section and twist the hair towards the center of your head (shown by arrow).

Next, use a bobby pin and pin from the back of the twist up towards your forehead. Use a second bobby pin to form a cross with the first bobby pin to secure your hair (shown by arrows).

Lastly, repeat the above steps on the other side of your head and you have your cute neko mimi hair!

Remember to use hair spray so they don’t droop throughout the day like in my last outfit of the day post!

Side Hair Bun Using Hair Extensions

18 Jul

Hi Everyone!

I want to show you guys a super easy and cute hair-do that I do on a regular basis.  I naturally have very thin hair.  When I put my hair up in a bun, it sometimes looks funny since I don’t have much hair.  In order to make it look fuller, I use clip on extensions.

I recently dyed my hair a lighter colour, so please ignore the fact that the extensions do not match my hair colour! LOL

Before picture of my hair down.  I ombred my hair recently.  I will post a tutorial on how I did it soon!

Step 1:
First I tease my hair at the crown and hairspray.  This helps the extensions hold on better, gives volume, and helps to hide the extensions.

Step 2:
Flip your teased hair over (towards your face).  Take your hair extensions and clip them in an upwards direction (upside down).  Try to clip them in an arched shape and not too close to the sides of your head.  You want to keep them focused towards the center of you head, so that when you put your hair up, there will be enough hair on the sides to cover the extensions.  The last thing you want is for them to show!  I personally like to put in 3 rows of extensions that vary in width.

Step 3:
Flip  your hair back down.  Gather your hair up into a high pony tail.  Make sure your hair extensions are being covered by the hair towards the side of your face.

Step 4:
Don’t loop your hair fully through the hair elastic on your last time around to create a bun.  I like to put the bun towards the left side of my head.  Double check with a mirror that it looks good from behind.  And finally, hairspray!!!

I hoped this tutorial helped you.

DIY Clip On Hair Extensions

14 Jul

Hello everyone!

I’m going to show you how I made my own clip on hair extensions.

I have thin hair and I was looking into buying clip on hair extensions to increase volume and length in my hair.  I thought the pre-made extensions were kinda pricey, so I thought I could make my own for a fraction of the cost.  I think everything cost me a total of $50, compared to the $100 plus for pre-made extensions.

The supplies you will need are  (All are found at your local beauty supply store):

  • Human Hair extensions
  • Hair Bonding Glue
  • Wig Clips/Extension Clips
  • Thick Hair Weave Thread
  • Thick Curved Needle (meant for hair weaves)

Step 1:
Measure the width that you would like the extension to be.  Cut double that length from your hair extensions.  I like to double my extensions because I find that the hair is too thin by itself.

Step 2:
Apply the hair bonding glue along the top edge of the extension.  Don’t apply too much!  Fold the hair extension in half and hold together until it dries.  This will make the extension fuller in volume, therefore you don’t need to clip on as many extension layers.

Step 3:
Thread your needle with the thread.  Take your clips and sew them into the top edge of the extension (where you previously glued).  Attach enough clips to hold the extension up in your hair.  Once I snip off the extra thread, I also like to place a little bit of the bonding glue on the knot just to make sure it does not come undone.

You are now done!  It’s super simple and easy to do on your own.

An optional step you can do is to layer the hair extensions.  Since my hair has a lot of layers, I also like to layer my extensions and taper them to more of a point at the ends.  I just did that with a pair of hair cutting scissors.

Manic Panic: Red

27 May

Jolly good GGG mates,

Listening to: We Are Young – Fun

I want to apologize for this late post. My cpu has been on MIA. Unfortunately, the chip site in my computer burnt out so, it’s been under repair. But aside from the unfortunate operation my cpu had to endure, I wanted to share my Manic Panic experience.

Now, I’m sure I’m behind on trying Manic Panic but if you’re still interested in colouring your hair, here was my ordeal with the red Manic Panic.

It took about two weeks for the purple to completely fade out of my hair leaving a sort of dirty blonde colour. I honestly don’t mind it but since I already had my bleach hair I said to myself ‘I might as well take advantage.’

The colour of the red was not as intense as I had hoped. I’m pretty sure I may have to strip my hair bright blonde to get the intensity I’m looking for. Either way, I actually like this hair colour. The instructions states to leave the dye in for 15-30 mins. I decided to leave it in for an hour and a half and for the first 15-20 mins, blow dry heat into it. And this was the result.

If you’re looking for a deep intensity red, Manic Panic is not the choice but I hope to try out pink. So, stay tuned!

Hair with a flare!

28 Apr

Hey there GGG fans,

Listening to: Besitos – Pierce The Veil

Thursday was an interesting day for me! I got the ends of my hair coloured purple. *sigh* I’ve been obsessed with the colour purple since last year. My favourite colour is red but it’s safe to say that purple is just short of number one.

I had it done professionally since I don’t like to go half-ass on my rocker-type features.

If you’re planning on stripping and dying your hair expect a minimum of three hours. This was my first! I intended to do some of this in highschool but unfortunately, I didn’t have the money. My boyfriend wanted to treat me but he had already paid for my piercings that I had gotten earlier this month, which I will discuss later in this post.

After three long and very patient hours, I had come out with violet hair!

Yes, sorry. It looks blue in the first picture lol.

My experience at The Village Salon which won an award for Ontario’s number one hair dressers, was quite a nice experience. Everyone there was friendly and they provided great customer service!

To help prevent fading, I’m using L’Oreal Shine Blonde shampoo which is blue shampoo that helps reduce discolouration. Once it starts fading, I will try Manic Panic to maintain it but there have been mixed reviews. On another blog, I had read that a girl had great experience with XXL Cyber Purple 46 so, I’ll be looking out for it and let you know of my experience. If you know of any good colour hair-dyes, please let me know!

~

If you’re one for piercings, I got my conch and my tragus done April 1st. Sounds kinda raunchy but it’s really not lol.

The tragus is basically the stud that I have just outside of the ear and the conch is the ring. I went to a tattoo parlor in downtown Toronto known as Adrenaline. I would definitely recommend! They were quite sanitary and were really nice there. They even post their sanitation tests on their website.

If you’re planning to get any of these piercings expect about a 2-6 month healing period. I’m hoping to change my piercings to Nightmare Before Christmas studs :D

Btw – GGG, do you know of any good sites where you can get coloured contacts?

I bid you adieu.
