Riven Armor Cosplay Video Tutorial: Part 3 & 4

30 Aug

Hello Everyone!

Today I’ll be posting two videos. One will be Part 3, which is paper maching the basic shapes of the armor and the other Part 4 is using Fast Mache after the paper mache. I separated them so that if you already know how to use regular mache you can skip to the next part.

Here is the part 3 video of making Riven armor cosplay. In this video I am using regular mache to strengthen the props before I fast mache. It’s needed to give extra durability, cover the holes and smoothen joints. Create the paper mache paste with flour, water and glue. Cut strips of paper and dunk it into the paste and apply to the prop. Apply 3-4 layers of paper mache and dry between each layer. Keep in mind that the next step (Fast Mache) is what makes the prop heavier. The less holes filled by the fast mache the lighter it will end up being.

Here is part 4 video of making Riven armor cosplay. In this video I’m using the Fast Mache to plaster the prop up. This makes it durable and creates a armor like appearance. It’s really nice to paint on and makes a prop durable. Make sure to apply a layer around .5mm to 1 cm thick. It needs around a full day to dry and make sure it is completely dry before painting. If you want to have more information about the Fast Mache I used please see my previous post about using Activa’s Fast Mache for cosplay props.

Riven Sword Cosplay Video Tutorial: Part 2

22 Aug

Hello Everyone!

Hope nobody was waiting too long for my next video! I’ve been so busy so I wasn’t able to finish my 2nd video early. Here is my Riven Sword Cosplay Video Tutorial: Part 2. This video I’m showing you how I build Riven’s sword with layers of foam board. It is a very similar process to my Riven Armor Cosplay Video Tutorial: Part 1, but making the sword instead of armor pieces.

Alright so here is a template I’ve create for all you Riven Cosplayers. Hopefully it works, it should be to size, if not open in a program and make sure it comes out 20″ wide and around 53″ tall. Let me know if you are having any problems. Just print it out on letter sized paper and then tape all the paper together to form the sword.

Here are the Photo steps of the video, Part 2 (For video scroll below):

As explained in the video the first part of the tutorial is making the basic shape of the sword. You need foam board bought from the dollar store, try to get it as cheap as possible. Feedback, comments and questions are welcomed. Please don’t hesitate to ask for any help or clarification. Here is the video, Hope you enjoy:

How to make a Soju Bomb

7 Aug

Over the long weekend, I tried out a new alcoholic beverage called “Soju Bombs”. A Soju Bomb consists of a shot of soju, which is then dropped into a cup of beer.

Soju is a popular, alcoholic drink in Korea. It is traditionally made from rice. In my opinion, the drink itself alone is not that tasty because I find it tastes similar to vodka (except not as strong) and I dislike the taste of vodka. However, as a Soju Bomb, I don’t even notice because the Hite beer washes out the taste of soju.

Hite is the top selling brand of beer in Korea. This along with a shot of Soju goes down quite easily. My friends and I have tried using other brands of beer to mix with the Soju, but I personally preferred Hite because it is more light tasting.

P.S. Beware! Soju bombs are creepers. They hit you pretty hard afterwards. ;)

Neko Mimi Hair Tutorial

21 Jul

Neko mimi hair (or cat ear hair) has been a popular trend in Japan this summer among gyaru. It’s often the hairstyle for models in magazines.

From Vivi magazine

From Popteen magazine

It’s a super easy hair style that can be worn by anyone, whether you have short or long, straight or curly hair =). It’s also easily customizable to suit your own style, you can make the ears large (like Lena Fuji in the first picture above from Vivi) or small.

First, grab a vertical section of hair above your ears, the size or the “cat ears” will be determined by how much hair you grab. Then slightly tease the back of the section and twist the hair towards the center of your head (shown by arrow).

Next, use a bobby pin and pin from the back of the twist up towards your forehead. Use a second bobby pin to form a cross with the first bobby pin to secure your hair (shown by arrows).

Lastly, repeat the above steps on the other side of your head and you have your cute neko mimi hair!

Remember to use hair spray so they don’t droop throughout the day like in my last outfit of the day post!

DIY Clip On Hair Extensions

14 Jul

Hello everyone!

I’m going to show you how I made my own clip on hair extensions.

I have thin hair and I was looking into buying clip on hair extensions to increase volume and length in my hair.  I thought the pre-made extensions were kinda pricey, so I thought I could make my own for a fraction of the cost.  I think everything cost me a total of $50, compared to the $100 plus for pre-made extensions.

The supplies you will need are  (All are found at your local beauty supply store):

  • Human Hair extensions
  • Hair Bonding Glue
  • Wig Clips/Extension Clips
  • Thick Hair Weave Thread
  • Thick Curved Needle (meant for hair weaves)

Step 1:
Measure the width that you would like the extension to be.  Cut double that length from your hair extensions.  I like to double my extensions because I find that the hair is too thin by itself.

Step 2:
Apply the hair bonding glue along the top edge of the extension.  Don’t apply too much!  Fold the hair extension in half and hold together until it dries.  This will make the extension fuller in volume, therefore you don’t need to clip on as many extension layers.

Step 3:
Thread your needle with the thread.  Take your clips and sew them into the top edge of the extension (where you previously glued).  Attach enough clips to hold the extension up in your hair.  Once I snip off the extra thread, I also like to place a little bit of the bonding glue on the knot just to make sure it does not come undone.

You are now done!  It’s super simple and easy to do on your own.

An optional step you can do is to layer the hair extensions.  Since my hair has a lot of layers, I also like to layer my extensions and taper them to more of a point at the ends.  I just did that with a pair of hair cutting scissors.

Homemade Shrimp Pasta

26 Jun

Hey everyone!

Last Friday, Coco came over to my apartment to make dinner with me and we cooked shrimp pasta =). It’s a really easy and healthy recipe so I thought I would share this with you guys!

You will need the following ingredients:

  • whole wheat pasta (use own discretion)
  • cherry tomatoes (1 US dry pint)
  • fresh herbs (whatever your preferences are)
  • garlic (2-3 cloves)
  • onions (1-2)
  • shrimps (use own discretion)
  • jalapeno pepper (optional)
  • lime (1)
  • olive oil
  • butter
  • salt and pepper

First, boil a pot of water. Add salt, a bit of olive oil, the pasta, and let it boil for about 8 minutes (read the packaging on your pasta). While the pasta is boiling, wash your herbs and dry the shrimps.

Then chop the cherry tomatoes, onions, herbs, and mince the garlic.

Heat up a pan with olive oil and cook the tomatoes with salt and pepper. Once it’s cooked, place it in a bowl, you’ll come back to it later.

Next, add a bit more olive oil and cook the garlic and onions. Once the onions are about half cooked, move the onions to the side of the pan so you can cook the shrimps. Put in the shrimps and add a bit of butter. When you see one side turning slightly red, flip the shrimps and add salt and pepper.

After the shrimps are cooked, add in the tomatoes, pasta, fresh herbs and mix!

If you like spicy food, you can add a few chopped jalapeno peppers in and it really gives the pasta a kick.

Finally, squeeze in half a lime and it’s ready to be served!

This takes only about 20 min to cook =)

We enjoyed it with a bit of sparkling wine XD

And yes, we eat our pasta with chopsticks!

After dinner, we went to meet Cute Sauce at a club for her birthday, but we ended up getting there 45 minutes before everyone else and the club was empty… So what else are 2 girls to do other than camwhore?

Hope you guys enjoyed this simple recipe!
