Miss Fortune Cosplay Part 2

5 May

Hi GGG Readers,

Other Miss Fortune Cosplay posts:   Part 1

I am back with part two of my Miss Fortune Cosplay.  I have finished my top and I have started on my hat.  I still have a lot to do, and I feel like I am running out of time.  My guns are coming along as well. My next post should focus again on my gun progress.

Miss Fortune’s Top

In order to make Miss Fortune’s top (if you can call it a top LOL) I bought a bra from La Senza.  It is a white lace strapless bra.  I wanted to make sure the bra was lace in order to give it more detail.  I then bought faux leather fabric from fabric land.  This fabric was actually found in the section that is used to make drapery, curtains, and other things.  It wasn’t in the regular clothing material section.  I then took the following steps to make the top:

1)   I first cut out triangles that fit perfect onto the bra cups

2)   I then cut a shape that would fit perfectly under and around the cups.

3)    I hand stitched on the triangles first, and then the bottom piece.

4)   I then cut out two rectangular pieces that are the same height as my bottom piece.  I hand stitched this onto the sides of the bottom piece.  I made sure that these pieces were not attached to the actual back of the bra.  This is so that you can still stretch and hook the bra on in the back.  These rectangular pieces will then lay on top.  The back is attached with black velcro that was also bought at fabric land.

5)   Next, the detail was added at the top of the bra cups.  This was made by purchasing a white lace trim and black ribbon.  I cut slots into the lace trim, and the black ribbon was weaved through to give that striped effect.  This was then hand stitched onto the top of the bra.

6)   I then created my own bow with the same faux black leather material.  This was hand stitched together and then onto the top.  I then added a gold/black button to hide the stitching and give it a more finished look.

7)   Lastly, the arm straps were sewn on.  The material I used isn’t stretchy, so I had to make sure these were long enough so I could lift my arms.   The problem is now when my arms are down, they hang pretty low.  Oh wells!

I might still add some detail onto the top.  Not sure yet.  It is not in the splash page, but I think it will add more to the look.  I’m thinking of adding a gold pattern along the side bands of the top.  I guess I’ll decide later.

Hope you enjoyed this tutorial and stay tuned for more updates on my cosplay progress.  I should have a tutorial on my hat shortly as well.

Diana/Riven Cosplay Update

1 May

Hello GGG followers,

I just wanted to do a little update. I have been putting it aside for a bit because of different things. Here is my latest photo of my Diana weapon, still in the process:

2013-04-29 19.24.05I’m pretty happy with the shape! Looks pretty identical to the model ^ ^. I can’t wait to paint and detail it. I will be posting a video up as soon as it is done. I have also been working on a Bunny Riven custom order. I don’t want to spoil the time-lapse video I am making so I will just show you progress photos for now. Here is the boards stacked to form the shape:

2013-04-20 22.37.01Here is the sword fast mached. It has also been spray foamed and paper mached.2013-04-28 13.59.57I will hopefully have that video up soon! I’ve been pretty slow on my updates lately. Super sorry about that! I’ve been pretty worried about my cat -_-. I know it sounds silly, but his sickness has taken me back, more than I expected. He is recovering, so I’ll feel a lot better about picking up the pace for my cosplay. Here is the photo of him. He looks a lot better than he actually is. He is recovering from a cancerous lump removal.
2013-04-25 09.38.59Anyways I hope that I will be able to finish this cosplay stress free -_-, but I think we all know procrastination is just in us XO.

Miss Fortune Cosplay Part 1

25 Apr

Hi GGG Readers!

Other Miss Fortune Cosplay Posts:  Part 2

Anime North 2013 is fast approaching, and as predicted I am procrastinating on my cosplay. LOL.  I’ll be going as Miss Fortune from League of Legends this year.  So far I have my wig, my contacts, started on my guns and top/shirt.  Still have a lot to do and not enough time!  In this post I want to share with you how I am making my guns.

Wig and Contacts

Lets start off with a preview of my wig and contact lenses.  I just got my contacts from PinkyParadise.com.  They are the Vassen Bambi Queen Blue circle lenses.

Guns

I started off by making my guns similar to my Riven cosplay props.  I started with layers of foam board, with the intent of covering with instant paper mache.  Please see my link for more details.  After finishing the base of the first gun, I decided to stop this method and make my guns out of wood.  I decided on this for a couple reasons.  First I wanted my weapon to be a bit more sturdy than last year’s, and I think I am able to make it look better and provide a smoother surface to paint on with wood.  I will be sharing both methods for you, as I know a lot of you cosplayers out there may not have the equipment or time to do wood work.

Foam Method:

1)   First I bought foam board from the dollar store.  Each board was $1 each I believe.

2)   I traced out the basic shape of my gun and cut the foam board out with an exacto knife.

3)   I bought a pylon from the dollar store and cut off the base to give me a cone.  This cone I used as the opening of the gun.  I traced the pylon onto the foam boards.  I then cut out this shape so that the pylon would fit nicely onto the end of the gun.

4)   I cut out many layers and glued them together to my desired thickness.  Some layers I cut off the trigger part, so that this part would be thinner than the others.  The barrel layers (outer most layers) did not include the handle.

5)   This is where I stopped, but to continue you would shape the gun by carving it with an exacto knife.  This would give it more of a rounder shape.

6)   Cover the gun in instant paper mache (Purchased from Michael’s craft store for approximately $30.00.  Remember to use your coupons!)

7)   Let the instant paper mache dry.  Do not make the layers too thick as they might not dry completely.  Add more layers if necessary.

8)   Sand the paper mache down and paint.

Please see our other tutorials on how to finish your weapons.

Wood Method:

1)   Trace gun shape onto wood board.

2)   Cut out shape.  I used a small table like saw to cut out my guns.

3)   Wood can be a bit more heavy than foam, so to make my guns a little lighter I hollowed out the inside layers a bit.  Be very careful to not go all the way through the wood.  I used a hammer and a chisel to do this.

4)    Use wood glue to glue together the layers.  I used two layers of wood for the handle and base of gun.  I added an additional two layers (rectangular shaped) to the barrel, and a few additional pieces to the end of the gun so that it can be sanded flush with the end funnel.

5)    I bought a plastic pot from the dollar store to use as the end of my guns.  This turned out to be a perfect size.

6)   I used a sanding tool attached to an air compressor to sand down my gun and make the barrel more rounded.

Still to do:

- Attach plastic pot to the end- Finish sanding
- Adding Trigger area
- Using wood filler to fill in gaps
- Painting
- Adding detailed designs

The League After Victory

23 Dec

Hey Guys,

Sorry to disappoint again but I’m going to have to delay another while for that tutorial DX. I’m sorry, please forgive me! Christmas shopping and work had me all tied up. Instead I have a old video I dug up from Anime North. We filmed it right after The Avengers came out, so I thought it would be a fun idea. It’s basically the League of Legends team after victory! It turned out kind of dull, but I think its pretty close to what they did with the Avengers. Anyways, I hope it entertains you while you wait for my next video. Try to watch it till the end!

Happy Holidays!

LoL – playing as Riven

11 Nov

Hello GGG Readers!

The opponent team had an interesting strategy: they all came at bottom to push which they succeeded by destroying both of our turrets. Check out the video below, I edited down to 10 minutes. I was still getting used to Riven because it was free then and was just trying it out.

I play Miss Fortune more than Malphite now, slowly improving… receiving less deaths hahahaha.

When I was playing LoL, my dad asked me to come out to the living room but I said I can’t and he started yelling at me. I told him I can’t pause the game, and it just reminded me of this meme:

You can also see some photos on my first post. This is video shows when the prop is sanded and what the fast mache end up looking like. You can plaster it to make it more smooth and then you are ready to paint! See the video for more details! Hope you guys enjoyed the tutorials, and vote below which tutorial I should do next!

VOTING IS CLOSED. Dark Stalkers and Eevee Evolution has been fighting for the winning spot! We’ve decided to do the Eevee evolution anyways because we have an extra person to cosplay with us! If anyone is desperate for a dark stalkers cosplay let me know. Maybe next time we have an opportunity to cosplay as Dark Stalkers we will! If you are curious of the “Other votes” one person put “R2DR &C3PO” and another person put LoL. Results:

Riven Armor Cosplay Video Tutorial: Part 3 & 4

30 Aug

Hello Everyone!

Today I’ll be posting two videos. One will be Part 3, which is paper maching the basic shapes of the armor and the other Part 4 is using Fast Mache after the paper mache. I separated them so that if you already know how to use regular mache you can skip to the next part.

Here is the part 3 video of making Riven armor cosplay. In this video I am using regular mache to strengthen the props before I fast mache. It’s needed to give extra durability, cover the holes and smoothen joints. Create the paper mache paste with flour, water and glue. Cut strips of paper and dunk it into the paste and apply to the prop. Apply 3-4 layers of paper mache and dry between each layer. Keep in mind that the next step (Fast Mache) is what makes the prop heavier. The less holes filled by the fast mache the lighter it will end up being.

Here is part 4 video of making Riven armor cosplay. In this video I’m using the Fast Mache to plaster the prop up. This makes it durable and creates a armor like appearance. It’s really nice to paint on and makes a prop durable. Make sure to apply a layer around .5mm to 1 cm thick. It needs around a full day to dry and make sure it is completely dry before painting. If you want to have more information about the Fast Mache I used please see my previous post about using Activa’s Fast Mache for cosplay props.

Riven Sword Cosplay Video Tutorial: Part 2

22 Aug

Hello Everyone!

Hope nobody was waiting too long for my next video! I’ve been so busy so I wasn’t able to finish my 2nd video early. Here is my Riven Sword Cosplay Video Tutorial: Part 2. This video I’m showing you how I build Riven’s sword with layers of foam board. It is a very similar process to my Riven Armor Cosplay Video Tutorial: Part 1, but making the sword instead of armor pieces.

Alright so here is a template I’ve create for all you Riven Cosplayers. Hopefully it works, it should be to size, if not open in a program and make sure it comes out 20″ wide and around 53″ tall. Let me know if you are having any problems. Just print it out on letter sized paper and then tape all the paper together to form the sword.

Here are the Photo steps of the video, Part 2 (For video scroll below):

As explained in the video the first part of the tutorial is making the basic shape of the sword. You need foam board bought from the dollar store, try to get it as cheap as possible. Feedback, comments and questions are welcomed. Please don’t hesitate to ask for any help or clarification. Here is the video, Hope you enjoy:

Riven Armor Cosplay Video Tutorial: Part 1

15 Aug

Hello Everyone!

As some of you are aware I am doing a series of videos on how to make armor cosplay. I am finally able to upload the first video of my Riven armor tutorial video. Thank you for your patience as it takes longer to record and upload than I thought. This really makes me appreciate  videos even more than I already do! I also wished my voice sounded like hers, sorry about the terrible voice I have recorded. Hopefully I will get better at this and this video helps anyone who was confused about our pervious posts about making cosplay. Here are the final photo results of the video, Part 1 (For video scroll below):

As explained in the video the first part of the tutorial is making the basic shape of the pieces. You need foam board bought from the dollar store, try to get it as cheap as possible. You honestly don’t need high quality foam board or anything like that. As long as when you slice the foam you can see have the paper attached so you can do the contoured parts. Hopefully everything is clear, I didn’t exactly explain everything but rather showed it. Feedback, comments and questions are welcomed. Please don’t hesitate to ask for any help or clarification! It’s my first time attempting one of these things so I’m open to suggestions. Here is the video, Hope you enjoy:

Riven Cosplay Final

31 May

Hi Everyone!

As you all know Anime North was last weekend. I ended up going all 3 days. It was extremely tiring but worth it. I ended up finishing my cosplay in time, however it wasn’t exactly how I wanted it. It was pretty close though. I didn’t have time to wire my sword up with LEDs completely. I ended up just putting LEDs along the blade edge of my sword. Didn’t have time to wire my runes. I will have to do that for next time.

I didn’t really participate in many events like we originally planned. We met up with the League of Legends photo shoot that went on Saturday afternoon. We also checked out the dealer’s room, and my sister bought a pink Yoshi plushie. Lastly we did a free photoshoot. We didn’t get to enter the skit or masquerade as we originally wanted.

Overall, it was an amazing experience and a lot of fun. I did however wake up with random bruises Monday morning. Haha. I have a bruise from my shoulder armor, and also bruises on the back of my leg.

Here are some shots I took with my glowing sword. The green lighting makes it look super cool and Riven-like. Once I upload the pictures from my friend’s camera, I’ll be able to post more pictures and full body pictures of my costume. In the mean time, enjoy these for now!
